The Community Church College was established in 1976 by the SouthShore United Church of Christ of Sun City Center as an adult education outreach program to serve the entire community and surrounding areas. The College is fulfilling its purpose in providing the area with the intellectual stimulation it seeks.
PURPOSE AND PROGRAM
The purpose of the College program is to inform, entertain, and inspire. A broad curriculum of subjects is offered to serve the interests and needs of its students. All courses are taught by highly qualified instructors drawn primarily from the local community. Along with our educational programs, we also offer stimulating trips and tours.
By offering non-credit courses, students benefit from the stimulus of lectures and discussions in an informal and relaxed environment.
SOURCES OF SCHOOL SUPPORT
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SUN CITY CENTER
The church provides classrooms, administrative space and other services to the school. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our faculty, staff, and community participation, the College attempts to be self-supporting through tuition, endowments, and donations.
THE ROBERT W. GINGERY ENDOWMENT FUND
In 1995 the United Community Church, United Church of Christ established the Robert W. Gingery Endowment Fund in honor of Dr. Robert W. Gingery, founder of the Community Church College and Minister Emeritus of United Community Church. Individuals who desire to express appreciation to Dr. Gingery for his years of leadership in establishing and nurturing the College, and for having served it as an instructor, can contribute cash, property, trusts, or bequests directed to the Endowment Fund.
ARTHUR K. BRANHAM FUND
The Arthur K. Branham Fund was established in 1994 by a bequest from Mr. and Mrs. Branham, longtime friends of the College. Interest from the fund is used for operating expenses of the College.
Provides funding to local organizations that benefits the community at large.
THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF GREATER SUN CITY CENTER
The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center has been generous in making grants to the College for the acquisition of computer, office, and audio-visual equipment, additional telephone lines, and development of expanded course offerings. Monies supporting these grants have come primarily from the Durward and Janet Siville Fund and the Robert Jeffries Fund, administered by the Foundation in furtherance of donor wishes.
Most recently, the Community Church College received a generous grant from The Community Foundation of Greater Sun City Center “Spirit Fund” which was used to purchase new computers and projectors to enhance our instructor’s classroom presentations.
